Hello everyone, it’s been a few months since we released the demo in April. It may have seemed like there wasn’t much going on over the summer, but nothing could be further from the truth! Let me update you on what MOD42 has been doing and how the game’s progressing.
Game news
Atmosphere, thrill and story are the core of Two Realms. Playing with lights, facial expressions - you wouldn’t believe how many emotions pixel art can convey. As Tomáš says: “I change one pixel, and the character looks completely different.” There’s art in that.
We’ve worked hard on the game’s content, focusing mainly on the first in-game day. Apart from the usual third-person view, we’ve introduced a few cutscenes to give weight to particular moments in the story. You can look forward to an animated intro sequence, a wagon carrying our protagonists away, and much more. I recently replayed the old classic The Dig - it’s still a great game, and I’m amazed how its cutscenes can completely immerse you in the story.
Conferences!
We attended two Czech conferences: Game Access 2026 and Into Games, where we showcased the demo and spoke to players and other devs. Both were awesome, and we gathered a lot of feedback on how to make the game even better.
One recurring theme - the demo is amazing, though a little short - but it grabs your attention and leaves people looking forward to what comes next. That’s an amazing signal for us - clearly, we’re doing something right!
We’ll also attend this year’s Gamescom - the biggest gaming fest in Europe, perhaps in the whole World! Together with other Czech studios, we were accredited by the Ministry of Industry and Trade - a great validation that our game is worth it.
Kickstarter?
Yes, we’re considering it. You can probably guess - development takes time and money. I’m pretty sure we’ll release the game either way, but a successful Kickstarter would mean we can deliver a better game - more time to create animations and cutscenes, work on the soundtrack, properly polish localisations, maybe we could hire a voice-over coordinator, and so on. Nothing’s decided yet, but if you consider yourself a fan of our game to the extent that you’d love to pledge your hard-earned money to our project, let me know - even a short “I’d back it” on our Discord counts! Or shoot me an email or respond on our social media, up to you. It will really help us decide - and know what to expect.
Anyway - keep following us to stay updated on this.
Press / Interviews
We’ve been covered in LEVEL, the legendary Czech gaming magazine! For me, it’s a great achievement - the quality of their articles is superb, and not everyone makes it in there. Thumbs up to us :-D. Unfortunately for most of you, it’s in Czech only.
Also, I appeared in a Talk To session on the Czech Retro Nation channel, which is also in Czech, but you can easily turn on the auto-translated subtitles - enjoy :-).
So, that's it folks! Have a great one,
- Jaromír
